This accessibility statement applies to the North Tyneside Care Academy website northtynesidecareacademy.org.uk.

It also lists the accessibility of third-party systems and websites.

We’re working hard to ensure that as much of our website as possible can be accessed and understood by all however we are aware that some parts of the website are not currently fully accessible, including:

  • Some of our PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
  • Some users may find some of the content difficult to understand.
  • Some links may not provide enough context to screen reader software.
  • Some of the fields on our online forms may not be fully identified programmatically which may limit the browser’s ability to auto-populate and auto-complete common fields.

North Tyneside Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Maps do not have a text alternative. This fails WCAG Guidelines 1.1.1 Non-text Content. We are looking at ways to provide accessible alternatives. 
  • Some of our forms do not auto-fill form fields from values stored in the users browser. This fails WCAG Guidelines 1.3.5 Identify input purpose. We will address this when moving to a new platform. 
  • Some links within web pages are not clear from the text within the link. This fails WCAG Guidelines 2.4.4 Link purpose (in context). We are helping our content owners to write accessible links that make sense out of context. 
  • Section links are not operable using a keyboard. This fails WCAG Guidelines 2.1.1 Keyboard. We are working on an accessible solution.

Disproportionate burden

North Tyneside Council believes our website should be accessible for everyone. We do not currently intend to claim disproportionate burden for any website content.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. We are working to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. 

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

  • We test all new page templates to make sure they meet WCAG guidelines.
  • We plan to move the website to a new platform. As part of this work we will fix outstanding accessibility issues.
  • We have developed a digital style guide. This provides accessible components for our developers to use.
  • We have produced guidance for staff to help them create accessible content.
